1. We would love to know when you started playing netball and what inspired you to start.
I started playing in Grade 3, when I was nine years old, and the inspiration behind it was being on the playground (court) with my friends! That’s where my love of the sport started.
2. Who are the female role models or mentors who have influenced your netball journey?
It has to be my Kovsie seniors when I was in my first year at the University of Free State. They were not only good and won everything, but all of them were great leaders and mentors.
3. How has playing in the Telkom Netball League (TNL) helped you grow as a player and person?
It’s a fantastic platform that brings so much competition and exposure. Selectors can recognise you to try out for the national team, which is also an excellent start to playing internationally. The TNL's intensity is challenging, so we must perform at a top level.
4. How do you think netball can be used to empower women and young girls?
Netball opens up a lot of opportunities. For example, it can help you further your studies by getting a high school or higher institution bursary. Besides that, you can play abroad, which is a dream come true for many. Above all, you can make a living out of what you love.
5. Please share a memorable moment or achievement from your netball career.
The most memorable moment was playing in the 2019 and 2023 Netball World Cup.
It will always be the best netball moment playing on the world's biggest stage against the most prominent countries.
6. What are some of the biggest challenges you've faced in your sporting career, and how have you overcome them?
Balancing school and sports while I was a student was tough because both were demanding, but with the support of my coaches and the university, I overcame that challenge until I got my degree.
Celebrating women, one profile at a time. Khanyisa’s story and netball career empowers and encourages resilience in aspiring female athletes and the girl child. Let's continue encouraging and celebrating women's achievements and uplifting their voices on and off the field, every day, anywhere.
