Bringing a never-before-seen energy to South Africa’s music scene, with episodes that were aired over 16 weeks on SABC 1, the season has come to an end and we are so proud to celebrate our winner!

He has earned himself a place in South Africa’s musical spotlight! Thandikhaya Magayiyana, better known as Joliza Bhacasoul, was crowned the winner of uShuni Womhlaba Season 1 in a glittering and memorable finale.

Joliza hails from the Eastern Cape where he is a Gqeberha primary school bus driver. That is all set to change…

Throughout the show he has demonstrated his love of South African folk music while paying tribute to his musical inspirations. It was his way of merging traditional sounds with a personal touch that won the hearts of the crowd in the final stages. His artistic evolution was evident, and his dedication to uplifting Mbaqanga and traditional music truly set him apart as a unique voice in the competition.

Winning uShuni Womhlaba opens a new chapter for Joliza, offering him opportunities that were once beyond reach. “This is a dream come true,” he said. “I am so grateful for this opportunity to share my music with South Africa. I will continue to honour our musical heritage and make my mark as an artist. This might just be the end of my career as a school bus driver as I embark on my journey as a professional musician.”
