It’s been a ride! Join us as we celebrate the year that was.
2024 was epic with you by our side! Let’s take a look at the Telkom 2024 Highlights and get ready to make the best of 2025.
We were named a Top Employer
We rang in 2024 loud and proud by being recognised by the Top Employers Institute as a Top Employer. Not just once, but for the second year in a row. Our categories of impact were people strategy, work environment, talent acquisition, learning, diversity, equity and inclusion and wellbeing.
Telkom Lion’s Den launched
We launched a group-wide challenge called Lion's Den which saw our staff sharing more than 60 ideas on how we could elevate our game as a digital service provider. The top 10 submissions had the opportunity to present their ideas to our senior leadership and enter the Lion’s Den. The winning team walked away with a grand prize of R1 million!
Possible begins here made its debut
Our brand repositioning was, as ever, inspired by you, the people of Mzansi. Your voices called for a spark of inspiration, a shining beacon, something to believe in. We showed up in familiar places with a digital origami display on the iconic UNISA Pretoria building to get closer to you. We also wanted to hear how you embraced the value of Possible in your life and you definitely delivered. Thank you for sharing your stories with us on social media and for showing the world how Possible begins here every day.
We celebrated our 20 million customer milestone
Mzansi, you helped us grow! As the second half of the year dawned you showed your love for the brand by making us a family of more than 20 million mobile customers. As our family has grown, we’ve also upped our game to create smoother customer service processes via our many digital platforms, such as our WhatsApp self-service channel, MyTelkom app and website, stores and contact centres.
Telkom Netball League entered its epic era
The Telkom Netball League has provided an extraordinary platform for women in sport. Khanyisa Chawane’s jovial spirit and commitment stood out in 2024 as she gave her all in her role as the #StandTall ambassador and captain of the SPAR Proteas. The passion and energy from all of our teams around the country, both on and off the court, made this a year to remember. Khanyisa has praised the league as a beneficial, yet intense and challenging space that encourages athletes to give of their best.
Comic Con Africa showed flames
This year proved that Comic Con Africa has grown its cult-like status and has become the highlight of the year for gamers, cosplayers, culture vultures and everyone in between. Telkom VS Gaming, as a supporter and partner of the event, showed up in a big way for gamers at the event held in September this year with free-to-play areas and the High School Esports League (HSEL) that set imaginations on fire.
Ushuni Womhlaba crowned its first star
Thandikhaya Magayiyana, better known as Joliza Bhacasoul emerged as our debut winner of South Africa’s first multi-genre music talent show, Ushuni Womhlaba. At a glittering and emotional finale, former bus driver Joliza walked away victorious with a cash prize of R500 000, and a record deal from Gallo Music. We can’t wait to see his star shine even brighter in 2025!
The Telkom Foundation
The Telkom Foundation showed up for communities in need in a big way this year. We shared heartwarming and inspiring moments during Mandela Day, served the Ekhurhuleni School for the Deaf with a makeover and provided technical support for the school’s infrastructure. We also opened two prominent ICT Labs, one at the Refilwe Secondary School in Metsanangwana in Limpopo and another in conjunction with the Steve Biko Foundation in the Eastern Cape.
